Routine Coffee Prevent Skin Cancer Melanoma

Good news for those who like to drink coffee. According to research published in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute, coffee is believed to reduce a person's risk of skin cancer called melanoma.
"We found that four or more cups of coffee per day can reduce about 20 percent of the risk of malignant melanoma," said Loftfield Rikka, a student at Yale University School of Public Health who completed his dissertation at the US National Cancer Institute.

According to researchers, the caffeine content of coffee can reduce damage to skin cells caused by exposure to the sun's ultraviolet rays.

Melanoma is a skin disease that can cause death. In the United States, melanoma is the fifth most common cancer.

This research was conducted by sending a questionnaire to the 3.5 million people living in California, Florida, Louisiana, New Jersey, North Carolina, and Pennsylvania, as well as the two cities, Atlanta and Detroit. People are asked to fill in their diets daily, which are then studied for years.

The participants were asked to report how much coffee consumption and other factors which may affect the risk of cancer, such as drinking alcohol and body mass index.

The result, researchers found that people who drink coffee every day to enjoy a lower risk of melanoma, compared with those who drank little or no coffee at all.
