Coffee consumption does not only keep you awake, but also damage your body's internal clock, "said researcher Kenneth Wright Jr., as reported by the Health page on Sunday.

This new study aims to understand how caffeine affects the body clock. Other studies have shown that caffeine disrupt body clocks on other organisms and species such as algae, fruit flies and mice as possible.

Wright and colleagues examined five people for 49 days. Three hours before bedtime routine, they were asked to consume caffeine capsules equal to double espresso with the amount adjusted to their body size or placebo capsules. They are also exposed to bright light or dim. Bright light can reset the body clock and make them want to sleep.

The researchers found that caffeine seems to delay the body clock of the study participants 40 minutes, about half the delays associated with exposure to bright light.
This study showed that caffeine affects the signals in the cell, disrupting a core component of the circadian clock mobile
